Helping Our Community

Being an active part of a community includes helping others.  Porter Scott is pleased to support the following organizations.

Cristo Rey High School Sacramento

Known as “the school that works”, Cristo Rey provides a unique opportunity for students from low-income families in Sacramento to obtain a college preparatory education.  In addition to completing a challenging traditional curriculum, each student works one day per week at a local business. The compensation provided by sponsoring employers pays for more than half of the student’s tuition. This unique combination provides marketable job skills, and helps students develop a strong work ethic and increased self-esteem. Over 90% of Cristo Rey students are accepted into highly respected colleges and universities.  Porter Scott has been a Cristo Rey work study partner since 2008. Our student employees are an integral part of our team.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. This organization was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. In addition to providing financial support, Porter Scott attorneys and staff donate time, energy, and a fair share of elbow grease to provide Sacramento families with a place to call home.

Ronald McDonald House of Northern California

Sacramento has several world class medical facilities, including two of our long-term clients, the UC Davis Medical Center and Mercy General Hospital. Ronald McDonald House provides “home away from home” housing for the families of seriously ill or injured children being treated at local facilities.  The House and its welcoming staff help ease the stress of being away from home. Porter Scott helps out by making monthly donations of items on the Ronald McDonald House Wish List, hosting an annual bake sale with all profits going to the House, and providing other financial support.
