Summer Law Clerk Program at Porter Scott

At Porter Scott, our Summer Law Clerk Program is designed to give law students a true picture of what it means to practice law in a fast-paced, collaborative litigation firm. Each summer, we invite a select group of rising 2L and 3L students to join us for an immersive experience that combines substantive legal work, professional development, and plenty of opportunities to build lasting relationships with our attorneys.

We are no longer accepting applications for the Summer 2026 program. Applications for Summer 2027 are expected to open in late Summer 2026. Please check back then.

  • Real Work, Real Experience

The best way to learn law is by doing it. As a summer law clerk at Porter Scott, you will be entrusted with meaningful assignments for real clients—the same kind of work handled by our associates. From research and drafting to depositions, mediations, and court hearings, you’ll gain first-hand exposure to the litigation process from intake through resolution.

  • Mentorship & Guidance

Each clerk is paired with an associate mentor who provides guidance, feedback, and support throughout the summer. You’ll have the chance to interact with attorneys at every level, from first-year associates to shareholders, and to explore practice areas that match your interests. Our goal is to ensure you finish the summer with sharpened skills and a clearer vision for your career.

  • Professional Development

We are committed to helping our law clerks grow into practice-ready attorneys. Clerks receive constructive feedback on assignments, participate in training workshops, and attend firmwide development programs. We also schedule mid-summer and end-of-summer check-ins to review progress, celebrate strengths, and set goals for the future.

  • Culture & Connections

At Porter Scott, we believe great lawyering goes hand in hand with strong relationships. Our summer program includes social events, team lunches, and firm activities that allow you to connect with attorneys both professionally and personally. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in firm summer traditions such as mixers and even playing softball in the Sacramento County Bar’s lawyers’ league. These experiences showcase the supportive, collegial culture that defines our firm—and that many of our clerks choose to return to as full-time associates after graduation.

  • Your First Step Toward a Career at Porter Scott

The Summer Law Clerk Program is more than just a summer job—it’s an opportunity to see yourself as a future associate at Porter Scott. Many of our clerks return to join us after law school, already familiar with our clients, our culture, and our commitment to excellence.
