Porter Scott Obtains Favorable Verdict for the City of Stockton
Shareholder Will Camy and Associate Jenn Thompson recently obtained a favorable jury verdict on behalf of the City of Stockton. The City’s police canine bit Plaintiff in the upper left leg, who was not the intended suspect. Liability was admitted and the primary dispute in the case was the reasonable amount of damages for Plaintiff’s pain, suffering, and emotional distress, given that Plaintiff had a complicated recovery for his injuries. Plaintiff asked the jury to award more than $400,000. The jury was clearly more convinced by the defense view of damages and awarded $88,200. Given a pre-trial stipulation that the City was 90% responsible (compared to 10% for the suspect), the City’s responsibility for the verdict is just $79,380. Congratulations to Will and Jenn on their good result for the City!
