A 1964 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Mr. Porter earned his law degree from UCLA in 1967. In 1976, Russell and three friends/colleagues started the law firm that now bears his name. What was once a small firm of four has since grown to nearly 50 attorneys!

In his 39 years as a litigator, Russell has tried to conclusion over 150 trials in more than 25 counties. In his practice specialties of personal and catastrophic injury, products and professional liability and complex business matters, Russell has extensive trial experience and successes that have justifiably earned him a national reputation in such areas as flammable fabrics, defective products, and toxic substances. In the practice area of catastrophic injury he has successfully defended several lawsuits, including ones in which he previously offered $1,000,000. While less frequently representing plaintiffs, Russell has also received verdicts exceeding $1,000,000. In recent years, he has defended a variety of employment-practices and wrongful-termination cases on behalf of an architectural firm, a law firm, an insurance brokerage, and several business entities.

In 1978, Mr. Porter was honored to accept membership into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has since been elevated to the status of Diplomat; a title reserved only for a select few. Russell has repeatedly been selected by his peers for inclusion in the annual publication, The Best Lawyers in America. In October 1999, he was inducted into the prestigious and exclusive American College of Trial Lawyers. In addition to being named as a Super Lawyer and Top Lawyer in various local and national publications, Mr. Porter was named 2003 Trial Lawyer of the Year by ABOTA's Sacramento Valley Chapter.

Throughout his career, he has lectured at law schools, the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute. He has also participated as a moderator and panelist in numerous Masters in Trial presentations; appeared as a lead panelist in CEB seminars; and served as an arbitrator and Judge Pro Tem for Sacramento County Superior Court.
